The Missoula Downtown Association originally formed as a committee
of Chamber of Commerce, the Missoula Retailers in 1957. In 1975,
the committee separated from the Chamber and created the Downtown
Merchants Association. In reaction to changes in the Missoula community
and the decline of Downtown, in 1981 the Association reorganized
and broadened its membership and mission to represent the widening
range of businesses in the area, becoming the Missoula Downtown
Association.
